It truly takes a team to run a great orthodontic practice, and we’re proud of the team at Smiles for Maine. Each one has been carefully selected for not just their expertise, but for a great blend of personalities to create a warm, caring experience for our patients and their families.
Many of our assistants are certified by the Maine Dental Assisting Board, and all have State of Maine dental radiology licenses. Each assistant is highly trained and everyone participates in various continuing education opportunities throughout the year, so they are up-to-date and able to care for you at the highest level.

My name is Sarah and I am the treatment coordinator for Dr. Charlie. I’m from Waterville originally but attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia. After living in southern Spain I have moved back to Maine. It’s been great living closer to my friends and family. The best part about working in the orthodontic field is developing great relationships with patients and their parents.
I love talking with our patients and getting to know them. As the treatment coordinator, it is my job to make sure the patient and parent feel comfortable with the office and understands their treatment choices. The people here at Dr. Charlie’s are such a special group and I feel very fortunate to be a member of the team. They make coming to work every day a great experience!
When I am not at the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband John and his kids, Cami, Rianne and Jack along with my family and friends skiing, traveling, road biking, going to the ocean, kayaking and trying to golf.
I’m Vicky, and have been part of Dr. Charlie’s team since 2007. You’ll see me at the front desk with Kori. One of my primary responsibilities is to work with you to develop a flexible payment plan so you are comfortable with your orthodontic investment. I’ll also help to schedule your appointments while you’re in treatment. I enjoy the interaction with patients and their families and the relationships that develop while they’re in treatment.
I enjoy spending my free time with my family, especially my children Kegan, Kassadi and Karsten. I am out and about a lot for their sports so maybe I will see you!!
Hi, my name is Kim. I attended Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, where I graduated from the dental assisting program in 1987. I have worked for Dr. Charlie ever since. I enjoy working with such a great team who work very hard with patients to create beautiful new smiles.
I truly enjoy getting to know our patients during their time in braces. They become like family and it is hard to see them leave when treatment is done! Nothing compares to the day the braces come off when we all get to see the excitement in the patient’s face as they see their new smile for the first time. Every new smile is exciting for us and we love to see the difference that a beautiful smile makes.
I am thankful to have Dr. Charlie as a boss who encourages us to attend continuing education courses, which allow us to constantly improve and learn more about the exciting changes in the world of dentistry! When I am not helping create great smiles, I enjoy traveling, kayaking, biking, golfing and skiing with my husband, Lenny and friends.
My name is Darlene and I’ve been in the orthodontic field since 1989. I started working with Dr. Charlie’s office in 2004. I will be the person working with Sarah to help make your first visit to our office a positive and fun experience. Making patients feel welcomed and comfortable are my #1 priority. I am also the Invisalign coordinator, which means I will be working closely with you and Dr. Charlie throughout your treatment if you choose Invisalign as your way of making your smile shine.
I absolutely love to make patients feel excited about coming to our practice, because I’ve seen again and again what a difference orthodontics can make. When I am not in the office you can find me at home either googling something or finding new things to try on Pinterest. If it’s the summer, I will be by my pool. My husband, Shawn, is very active in our community through the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce. We have three daughters: Leah, Stephanie and Sasha and three grandchildren: Jaxson, Melanie, and Raelyn! Grandchildren are such a joy!
Hi! I’m Sara, I attended the dental assisting program in Bangor in 2003 and did my internship with Dr. Charlie’s team. The experience was so fabulous I was thrilled when I was offered an assisting position and I’ve enjoyed being a part of the team ever since.
I love all aspects of working in the orthodontic field, and what I love the most is seeing patients grow throughout their treatment and to know I was part of creating that beautiful smile and the confidence that comes with it. When I’m not at the office I’m home having tons of fun with my son Lincoln and daughter Harmony.
Hi! I am Freda, one of the assistants that will be creating your new smile along with Dr. Charlie! I was a patient of Dr. Charlie’s when I was in high school and know from that experience how great it is to have Dr. Charlie as your orthodontist. I am now honored to be a part of this wonderful team! When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, Camy, and my husband Stefan. I love the snow and enjoy being outside snowmobiling or four-wheeling.
Hello, my name is Tiffany. I went to school for Dental Assisting and am happy to use those skills at Smiles for Maine Orthodontics. I work both as an assistant to Dr. Charlie and as a lab technician helping to create appliances for treatment and after.
I especially like assisting Dr. Charlie with our sleep apnea patients – taking their scans, helping with their appliance adjustments and monitoring their progress. When I am not at work, you can typically find me spending family time with my husband Lance, our beautiful daughters Laney and Olivia, and also my other babies (my dogs) Lenox, Jadah, Tycen and Zalah! I also enjoy biking and reading.
